Lanzhou is in the shape of a narrow & long valley circled by hills and the Yellow River. It is the capital city of Guansu Province with a population of 2.83 million people, one of the largest cities in the northeast.The city is named Lanzhou because it is locaed in the central section of Gansu Province, with Gaolan Mountain Range to its south. It was an important base around 1,400 years of Hexi Corridor. Now it is still a key stretch of the Silk Road.

Labrang Monastery is located in the south-west of Lanzhoua about 170 km away. It is nestled in the hills at an altitude of almost 3000 meters amid surrounding mountains, and lying on the northern banks of the Daxia River, in the small town of Xiahe, county seat of Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture.

It is situated about 45 kilometers southeast of Tianshui City, 130 Km away from Lanzhou. Maiji Mountain is 142 meters high from the landscape. The mountain "Maiji" is anamed after a stack of wheat straw (m ai meaning wheat, and ji meaning stack).
The Yellow River is regarded as "the Mother River of China". Zhongshan Bridge is said to be the first bridge over the Yellow River. The bridge is situated at the foot of Baitashan Hill and the middle area of Binhe Road in Lanzhou.

Gansu Provincial Museum is situated near the street next to the Friendship Hotel. It covers an area of 16.5 acres. It is a provincial-level comprehensive museum with a wide selection of exhibits linked Gansu Province and the Silk Road.

It is named after the hill in the park. White Pagoda Hill is situated on the north bank of the Yellow River. On the top of the hill there is a white pagoda temple. The octagonal pagoda covers 7 terraces which is 17-meter high.
Five Springs Park
Five-spring Park is is named after the five limlid springs found in the park. It is located the foot of Gaolan Hill southeast of the city. the park is very hign, about 1600 meters above sea-level.

The Thousand Buddha Caves of Bingling Temple is located 50 km west of the Yongjing County, 80 km away from Lanzhou. The temple is on the Jishi Hill.
